As avid appreciators of Persian art and culture, we grew increasingly concerned about preserving traditional Iranian craftsmanship. Many ancient techniques and designs were at risk of being lost without opportunities for young artisans to learn and showcase their skills.
We felt a new approach was needed to both empower creators and introduce worldwide audiences to the intricate wonders of Persian handicrafts. After visiting artist workshops across Iran, we were inspired by the passion behind each painstaking process.
This deeply rooted heritage deserved a platform to thrive and find valuation on a global scale.In 2020, we began contemplating how an online marketplace could fill this need. It would give artisans independence while connecting their talents to an international community of art lovers.
In 2021, we launched Hatra with the mission of keeping Persian artistry alive for generations to come. The name "Hatra" reflects our aim to form a protective sanctuary for Iranian design. We work closely with each partner to understand their craft, cultural symbols and manufacturing needs.
