Description

Horno is considered to be the natural source of light in classical Persian architecture. If you have ever been standing at the center of a mosque looking up, you’ve probably seen Horno in the vantage point of the dome. To this end, for centuries, Iranian architectures have been trying to use traditional architectural elements and daylighting solutions to better deploy the natural light in their designs. This study attempts to investigate and evaluate the application of light-catching elements in Iranian mosques, particularly in mosques and mosque–schools from Qajar period. The artist intended to create a physical outcome from the idea that we as individuals have the access and possibility to reach any aspect of our human form, good or evil.
